Teaching Experience

 

Wilfrid Laurier University-Faculty of Music–  Music 660: The Public Musician / Curation (Fall 2024)

This graduate-level course provides an in-depth exploration of curation, focusing on the principles and practices essential for creating meaningful exhibitions and musical projects. Students will examine pillars of curatorial theory, audience engagement, and the creative processes behind organizing diverse works. By the end of the course, each student will design and present a unique curatorial project, applying their knowledge to create an impactful experience for their targeted audiences.



York University Faculty of Fine Arts– Music Department Undergraduate Courses 

1) Workshop in Musicianship (2012-2013): This required course for all music majors is also open to students in Fine Arts and Cultural Studies, as well as non-majors by entrance examination. This intensive course focuses on developing practical skills in sight singing, rhythmic reading, ear training, dictation, keyboard skills, theory, and analysis. Through hands-on exercises, students will:

  • Enhance essential musical skills by sight singing melodies, scales, and chords using solfège.
  • Perform a variety of rhythmic patterns.
  • Learn to hear, notate, and perform simple and compound rhythms.
  • Gain a strong foundation in music theory.
  • Develop vocal ensemble skills through choral singing.
  • Strengthen piano proficiency.
  • Practice aural skills to hear and notate music in one or two parts.
  • Identify and notate diatonic scales, modes, triads, seventh chords, and cadences.
  • Study musical form through dictation and written exercises.

This course aims to build a comprehensive skill set for proficient musicianship.


2) Global Musicianship (2013): This course is required for all first year music majors. This intensive course aims to develop knowledge of music in a broad aspect. Students learn about different genres of music fro around the world and engage in sight singing, rhythmic reading, ear training, dictation, keyboard skills theory and analysis related to this topic. Performing a variety of rhythms; Learning to hear, notate and perform simple and compound rhythms of music from around the globe and  about Musical Form is part of this course materials.
